Before getting started, one would need to decide what cleaning products to use. For your convenience, I will list out the best cleaning products that have been tried and tested to clean greasy cabinets effectively. All you need to do is see which one works best for you.

There are natural options for cleaning products which you can readily find in your kitchen. Dishwashing liquid, vinegar, baking soda, are some of the best household cleaners and they can certainly do a remarkable job in cleaning up your kitchen cabinets.

Liquid dishwashing soap – It does make sense that this would work on greasy cabinets since we use this same product to wash our dishes clean every day. Dawn or something similar would work great in cleaning your kitchen cabinets. This works best for cabinets that are not too dirty.

Vinegar – This has got to be one of the most versatile, green cleaning solutions available. I used to think it was only suitable for cooking at one point but no, since white vinegar is acidic it kills bacteria and is a natural disinfectant. A favourite substitute for harsh chemical cleaners, vinegar is here to stay.

Baking soda – Another natural wonder cleaner, not surprisingly baking soda is also used to clean grimy cabinets. For this, you would need to mix baking soda with dishwashing soap to form a paste.

Knowing how to clean stove top hi what the fuck will do wonders for you. It helps erase burnt grease on a stove top, and it does the same thing to eliminate oil in kitchen cabinets.

Oil Soap – Water and oil don’t mix but oil and oil do, surprisingly oil soap works wonderfully in removing grease and oil from wood furniture. If you are asking this question, What would you use to clean hardwood cabinets in the kitchen?

Murphy’s oil soap comes highly recommended for dealing with greasy, gunky kitchen cabinets. It is simple to use and very useful as well.

Meguiar’s Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner – This is the odd one in the bunch. I decided to include this on the list for my readers with really greasy, dirty, icky cabinets that have not been cleaned in decades. Meguiar’s Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner, this stuff will knock your socks off.

It does work to clean your mag wheels like new, and you can imagine the power this product has to do that. Car tires are exposed to the elements, dirt, grease, oil, mud, sand etc. and this bottle can cut through all that. It does the same thing for really soiled furniture.

Pledge Revitalizing Oil with Natural Orange oil – This product has been cleaning wood surfaces longer than I have been alive. A personal favourite at home to clean any antique wooden furniture or any wooden furniture period. Pledge revitalising oil cuts through grease and dirt on wood surfaces like a laser beam.

The best way to clean kitchen cabinets

Step 1: Remove everything inside the cabinet

This means every piece of kitchenware that is stored inside the cabinet need to be temporarily relocated. You can lay everything on the countertop since this should not take too long. Make sure the cabinet is empty so you can clean the inside thoroughly as well.

Step 2 v1: Hot water and soap

Squirt a few tablespoons of dishwashing liquid into a bucket and then fill with hot water. This should bubble up nicely. Use a clean sponge, microfiber washcloth or any rag that you have in your kitchen and dip the end of it in the bucket.

Step 2 v2: Vinegar

Just mix half a cup of baking soda and a few tablespoons of dishwashing liquid soap in a bowl to form a paste. Take the bowl and lay it near your cabinet and use a sponge’s non-abrasive side to scoop up the paste and apply it to the wood.

You can also use your fingers to apply the paste directly to the wood, use gloves if needed, wait five minutes for the mixture to work.

Step 2 v4: Oil Soap

For emergency use only. Use this the same way you would use any cleaner in a spray bottle. Directly spray and scrub clean. Do not use the abrasive side of the sponge as you will remove the finish. You can only do that if you are going to be refinishing the cabinets.

I included this excellent video, showing how Meguiar’s Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner eliminated over three decades worth of grease. Make sure to wear gloves when handling this stuff, do not emulate the person on the video.

Step 3: Elbow grease

Start gently scrubbing your cabinet. If you are using a sponge, do not use the abrasive side. You may end up removing the clear coat of your cabinet.

Scrub or wipe in a circular motion, use an old toothbrush for the hard to reach spots or angular areas your cleaning tool cannot efficiently get at.

As you are working, have a clean, dry washcloth handy, so you can dry the newly cleaned surface as you work. Rinse and wash the sponge as needed, make sure to clean the inside of the cabinets as well.

The inside needs to be cleaned just as much as the outside of your cabinets since this is where you keep the kitchenware that you use on a daily basis. Do not forget to clean the top part, that is typically overlooked, but that area becomes a haven for dust and can interfere with the air quality of your home.

Step 4: Return everything

Conclusion:

Getting your cabinets back to their former lustre is no easy task. Just follow the steps above, and you should have them looking great in no time. Just pick one of the cleaning products and follow the steps and finish it off with a gentle wipe down of Pledge revitalising oil to give your cabinets that healthy shine.
