Audrey Hepburn once said that to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. Indeed, the peace that gardening gives makes us believe in the promises of tomorrow.

Audrey Hepburn, A little background

If you’re not familiar with Audrey Hepburn, she was a huge star in the Golden Age of Hollywood. She starred in critically acclaimed films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Sabrina. She was also a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and regarded as a fashion icon.

For a woman with an outstanding reputation, her true joys were in simple pleasures in life. She loved to garden, and wherever she lived she’d plant a garden. She loved them so much in fact she’s quoted as saying:

“Even if we were to lose everything, we have a garden, we can grow potatoes and eat them.” (Luca Dotti, Audrey at Home: Memories of my Mother’s Kitchen).

Her love for gardens was showcased in Gardens of the World with Audrey Hepburn (tv series), her last recorded performance.

Gardening gives us a certain joy and tranquility. It makes us believe that there is something to look forward to that there’s a flower that will bloom or a bounty to be harvested.

Audrey Hepburn truly loved to devote herself to gardening. She’d spend hours and hours in it, then return with overflowing baskets. She’s also quoted in saying one of the most well-known gardening quotes- “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow”.

This can be interpreted in a variety of ways. It can either be that gardening makes us feel at ease, and gives us hope for a better tomorrow. Or that planting a seed now so we can harvest the fruits of our efforts at a later date. Either way, it gives us a feeling of hope for what the future has in store for us (Thinking ahead as they say).

Here is our collection of garden and plant quotes similar to that garden quote by Audrey Hepburn.

Wrapping It Up

Think about the future- your aspirations, and goals. Now think about the small steps you can take to get you to that point. It may seem hard at first but try to do small increments each day. Sooner or later, you’ll surely get the fruits of your labor. It can lead to a merrier, more contented you.

Do this to your garden as well. Visualize what you want it to look like, and try to reach that every day. Remember that there will be many tomorrows before that garden can be realized, and as the saying goes- to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
